We always say: when the brand is aligned with the mission, culture shifts
This weekend, Akili Hight and his visionary project Lucid Futurism made waves at Comic-Con 2025, cementing what we already knew — that this isn’t just a novel, it’s a movement.

Although the GraySegments team couldn’t be on site this time, we were proud to have one of our other clients , the incredible Sakina Ibrahim, in the building to capture the essence of the moment. And from what she brought back? We felt the energy all the way from the convention floor.
This wasn’t just a debut. This was a cultural marker.
Lucid Futurism is More Than a Story
Akili’s work lives at the intersection of speculative fiction, ancestral memory, and Black brilliance. Lucid Futurism is a literary and visual experience that reclaims futurism through a deeply intentional, culturally-rooted lens. It blends tech, trauma, healing, and imagination and it dares us to see ourselves in futures we create for ourselves.

We’ve been working alongside Akili for just over three months refining his brand voice, amplifying his digital presence, and developing assets that reflect the depth of the world he’s building. Watching him show up this powerfully, this early in the rollout, is not only inspiring, it’s confirmation.
He’s just getting started, and the world is already watching.
A Creative Force With a Clear Vision
The alignment is real. Akili is one of those clients who leads with clarity, purpose, and a heart for storytelling that transcends genre. We’re honored he trusted GraySegments with helping bring this vision to life, both online and off. Every visual, every touchpoint, every word matters when you’re building a world — and Akili is building one you feel.

From the symbolism in his branding to the energy at the booth, everything reflected ownership, excellence, and intentionality, three things that matter deeply to us.
And to have another one of our clients, Sakina Ibrahim, capture that moment? It was full circle. Community recognizes community.
A Moment for Us All
Representation in sci-fi. A Black male author shaping futuristic narratives. A team of creative professionals across disciplines collaborating to make sure it lands. That’s what this is about.
This was bigger than Comic-Con. This was a glimpse into what’s possible when we own our voice and our vision.

Congratulations, Akili. We’re so proud of you.
GraySegments is behind you past the page, past the panels, into the future.
